False Advertising

March 15, 2024Calling the 16’ light string an “extension” is false advertising! While you can only use it with the 50’ and 100’ sets, according to their CS, you can’t add them to the sets to extend them another 16’. According to CS when I tried to add it to a 100’ set and had problems (that ended up not being related to the additional string), it’s not an extension, as they claim the 100’ power supply will only work up to 100’ and not more, therefore, there’s no such thing as an “extension.” It’s a replacement string, not an extension and its description should be reworded. Either that, or CS needs to stop claiming it won’t work to extend beyond the length of the 50’ and 100’ sets, because it actually does. Pros who install the lights for others confirmed that the power supplies for the 50’, 100’ and 150’ sets are the same.
That being said, thankfully, their CS is wrong. After replacing a bad string, I now have 116’ working on a 100’ power supply and controller with no data issues. I’m also using a 4’ pro jump cable without issue, which they also said couldn’t be done, when others told me it can. The only good thing CS did was to refund me for both my orders, without asking for me to return anything. Whether that is because they know they’re misrepresenting their product on their site, I don’t know, but they were very quick to offer a refund, which makes me suspicious. I love the lights, the app is so-so and not intuitive. If it weren’t for a Facebook group I’m in, I wouldn’t know I could use other people’s DIYs.
Best and Brightest Programmable String Lights

December 7, 2023Makes my neighbors Christmas lights look inadequate when I turn on a full 150 foot string of these outdoor Govee RGBIC LED lights. I love that they remain up year round and I can change the colors/themes/dynamic lighting with an easy to operate Govee app on my phone. Two challenging items: sticking the 3M taped backs of the lights onto outdoor wood and spanning across the sides of your roof that have rafters sticking out and are wider than the light spacing. The 3M tape I found works best if you use a rag and rubbing alcohol to clean the place the light will be stuck to and do the same every other light for the provided wire hold downs that come with a screw (the best way to keep some spots that do not stick to stay in place). The rafters I had to get creative and double up on the lights (ie. put one light on the bottom of the rafter and the adjacent light on the bottom side of the roof and then repeat in which there would be approximately double the lights due to the two different mounting locations for every two lights). All in all, it was all worth it. Can't wait now for each season and the various lighting schemes I'll use (and just plain white lights for a bright outdoor lighting of the front exterior of the house on normal times, good for that secure feeling that nobody can lurk in the dark around the front of your house since there is no dark spots anymore.)
LOVE THESE LIGHTS!

January 2, 2024I have been using Govee products for 2 years now, and love the quality and control of the products. They are super bright (which you can easily control) and the app is incredibly easy to use. I bought several Govee products to dress the outside of my house and I absolutely love them! They look stunning! My neighbours have asked me about these as well and two of them have put them up as well because of how good they look. I put these all around the soffits of my house on both levels, and they are amazing! I love how the app is so user friendly and come with so many pre-done effects. At Xmas I was able to change the patterns every few days with pre-made effects that are Xmas themed... at New Years, I changed it up to be more celebratory and they looked fantastic. I then switched them up to replicate natural light and inside our home it looked light daylight through the windows in the middle of the night. (I since changed them as they are quite bright and we like sleeping in the dark haha).
I love how you can control the lights, in groups, and create automations to sync up different effects.
Great quality product! Great company. Great customer support from Govee when I needed it. I love this brand.
(This is not a paid ad or review - I truly am a very satisfied consumer of their products).
Give yourself more distance from the wall

December 22, 2023Our neighborhood has been buying Jellyfish (and its competitors) lighting at 10x the price of these, so I was hopeful these would look remotely nice, and they definitely do! The instructions say to put the lights about 4-ish inches away from the wall, but after looking at my neighbors' installations, I doubled it out to about 8", keeping it on the soffit just before the fascia/flashing. It gives the most diffused look without an intense spotlight right under a module. I will say that it struggles to connect with Google Home. I have multiple Govee light kits and every one of them has a problem with that, even on the latest firmware. They need to get that fixed. The default Christmas light schemes aren't the best, but you can make your own schemes, so that's convenient. We get compliments on the lights and they really bump up the house's curb appeal at night. They should add in a few more of the plastic wire retainers. Many soffits like ours have textures on them that make it hard to adhere a certain distance intervals. Still, it was very easy to install, and the long lead between the controller and the first light really help with reaching an outlet without lights being draped in weird places. Really nice product.
